Happy 24th kadayawan "DAVAO"

Davao City remains a bastion of peace and a melting pot of various cultures in Southern Philippines despite eruption of new hostilities between government troops and rebels in Mindanao. Kadayawan Festival is a revised version of its forerunner, the ‘Apoduwaling’ which Officer-in-Charge Mayor Zafiro Respicio launched in 1987 during the revolutionary government of former President Corazon C. Aquino. The Kadayawan Festival is all about those pretty flowers, fresh fruits and tireless street dancing. We gave importance to all indigenous people living here in Mindanao, most especially here in Davao City. Their land are taken away, so as their culture and traditions, in order to preserve them, Kadayawan festival aims to restore their sense of belongingness.

Last week, Mayor Duterte officially open the 24th kadayawan with the them:

Nahiusang Katawhan Nakigdaig sa Kalibutan”

(“One People in Communion with the Earth”)
